Peacock Coffee Hour
All are welcome to join the Cathedral for a special coffee hour in honor of our peacocks Phil, Jim, and Harry, following today's 10:30 am Holy Eucharist service. This avian trio hatched in 2002, making them more than 20 years old, well beyond the typical life expectancy of peacocks in the wild. All three have lived long, peaceful lives on the grounds, but in recent years the peacocks have experienced the aches, pains, and health issues of old age. The peacocks will need specialized medical attention as they continue to age into their golden years, and after much consultation with the experts, the Cathedral has made the bittersweet decision to transition these venerable birds to a sanctuary where they'll be well cared for throughout their retirements.
While Jim, Harry, and Phil will be dearly missed, the Cathedral is glad to provide them with a safe, comfortable retirement at Animal Nation, a non-profit, 100% volunteer-run wildlife, farm, and domestic animal rescue sanctuary in South Salem, NY. Harry has already moved into his new home at Animal Nation, and Phil and Jim will join him later in January.
The three peacocks have become iconic symbols of the Cathedral over the past 20 years, and we look forward to gathering with the community to share stories of their long tenures here as they enter their well-deserved retirement. No reservations are needed to attend this coffee hour, and all are welcome to join us.
