The Cathedral was founded as "a center for intellectual light and leadership." The Cathedral is home to an incredibly expansive collection of art, has hosted many impressive exhibitions and installations, and houses numerous spaces dedicated to the preservation of textiles, poetry, and literature.

The James Parks Morton Interfaith Art CollectionOngoing
Throughout his career, the Very Reverend James Parks Morton, Dean of the Cathedral from 1972–1996 and a passionate proponent of interfaith dialogue.
Since its founding in the 1970s, the Residency program has woven living art and artists into the fabric of the Cathedral, providing time and space for artists to respond to the Cathedral as a powerful creative statement in stone, and opportunities for the public to access their work.
The Cathedral greatly values its Residency program, which will be carried forward in new ways into the 21st century
