The Cathedral of St. John the Divine's annual celebration in honor of Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment, will take place online and onsite this year. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the service will be a combination of livestreamed and in-person gatherings.

This year's service will be livestreamed from the Cathedral on this page, and on the Cathedral's Facebook page and YouTube channel. The livestreamed service will include music from the classic Missa Gaia sung by the Cathedral Choir and featuring Paul Winter and Company with the Forces of Nature Dance Company. The traditional Procession of the Animals will not take place this year.

People wishing to attend in person with their pets are invited to enjoy the service on the Pulpit Green, via a screen mounted outside. Cathedral clergy will administer the Eucharist outside to those who wish to partake.

All (human and animal) are welcome to attend pet blessings and festivities on the Pulpit Green immediately after the service, part of a warm and welcoming afternoon outdoors. There will be activities on the grounds for children and a magical performance by the Mettawee River Theatre Company, choreographed by master puppeteer, Ralph Lee.

No passes are needed to participate in the service outside on the grounds, or to attend the pet blessings or outdoor afternoon events. Your RSVP will help the Cathedral know how many guests to plan for. Please return to this page or follow us on Facebook for more info on the day of services and gatherings.
