Cathedral Masterworks: Music of Vivaldi, Monteverdi, & Haydn
Cathedral Choirs & Orchestra
Kent Tritle, conductor
Bryan Zaros, conductor
Eva Martinez, soprano
Kirsten Sollek, contralto
Paul D’Arcy, tenor
Joseph Beutel, bass-baritone
Come to the Cathedral and explore Haydn’s Mass for Troubled Times (Missa in Angustiis) with its stark and powerful opening that gives way to the light and joy we all seek. Revel in the beautifully rhythmic writing for strings in Vivaldi’s Beatus Vir (Blessed is the Man who fears the Lord) combined with ethereal vocal lines. And be captivated by Monteverdi’s raucous Laetatus sum (I was glad) with a recurrent bass that drives the momentum forward until a stunning ending.
Program:
Laetatus sum (1650)
Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
Beatus Vir, RV 795
Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
Missa in Angustiis, “Lord Nelson Mass”, Hob XXIII No.11 in D Minor
Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
